Meet Pastor Joe Munro
I started my journey almost 25 years ago when I was asked to go on a mission trip with the high school youth. This was life-changing for myself and also my family as we all have spent many years planning and attending yearly mission trips with youth and adults. As youth director at Sycamore UMC, I started programs for the youth that include church services, breakfast and devotions, youth group, Bible studies, confirmation, local mission work, mission work both in the United States and overseas. I have also been part of a group that has helped dig wells in Ethiopia and Rwanda, to provide the areas with much needed water supply. This past January, I had the privilege to lead a group of 23 to the Holy Lands.
In 2016, I felt God was calling me into the ministry full-time and I was given the opportunity to serve the congregation at Grace UMC Maple Park while also being appointed to Sycamore to run their youth and family ministry programs. We started many programs at both churches with the intent to build them to become stronger in numbers and faith.
Before ministry, I worked in the flooring industry and I owned a flooring company with multiple locations, along with owning commercial buildings and houses that we used as rental units.
I have been married for 32 years to my wife, Amy (high school sweetheart), and we have three children, Zach Munro (29) married to his wife Taylor and they have a daughter named Scarlett who is 4 months old, Whitney Munro (27) and Kailey Munro (25) who live together in Aurora.
